Extended SEL Programme

The Extended SEL Programme at St Aidan’s Anglican Girls' School is based on the belief that students benefit from the opportunity to experience dedicated curriculum time to develop personal and group leadership skills.

We hope to foster:

- cooperation and communication between peers
- feelings of confidence and competence
- the desire to master new challenges

Camping Programme Years 8 & 9

At St Aidan’s Anglican Girls' School, the purpose of the camping programme is to assist students in:

- developing an understanding of the complexity and delicate balance within the environment
- developing a sense of independence
- developing collaborative and co-operative living skills
- developing "real life" problem solving skills
- interacting with non-familiar natural and man-made environment
- meeting the challenge of mastery of new activities
- exposure to new and challenging situations

Year 8 Camp - Getting to Know You

The Year 8 camp is held early in Term One and allows all Year 8 students an opportunity to get to know one another.

Students will camp overnight at the Kindilan Outdoor Education Centre, cook on trangia stoves and participate in an evening spotlight walk.

Activities during the day will include; canoeing/kayaking, swing by Choice, Initiatives and Environmental Activities. All groups will meet for lunch, morning and afternoon tea for the girls to have as much time as possible to meet new friends.

Year 9 Camp - Expedition

The students will participate in an expedition programme including a range of physical challenges activities. There will be a strong focus on environmental awareness and sustainable practice.

The activities will offer a significant personal challenge to most girls. The programme aims to develop decision making, collaborative problem solving, team building and self-confidence.

Abseil
Rock Climb
Team Initiative and Problem Solving Tasks

Environmental Activities:

Tree planting
Permaculture Practices

Year 10 – Conference Programme

The Year 10 and 11 conference programme and the Year 12 Final Week Programme are structured to provide students with knowledge and understanding to support positive views of their personal future. St Aidan’s endeavours to encourage our students to be success orientated, engage in challenge and to expect their personal best. As well as supporting subject selection, SET planning and career guidance the conference programmes focus on individual protective factors which build resilience, leadership and life skills.

Year 11 – Leadership Conference

During the last week of the school year, the Year 11 students attend a special conference. This is to enable the group to become cohesive and inspired to lead the school for the following year.

All Year 11 students are encouraged to assume their roles with enthusiasm. They are empowered to communicate effectively, problem solve creatively and create a vision for their year as leaders.

Year 12 – Final Week Programme

This programme is devised by the Year Level Coordinator in consultation with the Dean of Students, Guidance Counsellor and Year 12 students.

The aim of the Final Week Programme is to provide our graduating students with information that will see them make successful transitions to life beyond school. Guest speakers and workshops address issues relating to safe driving, rental accommodation, personal safety, drug education, gender issues, and managing finances.
