Our vision is to establish an Innovation and Design Hub that will allow our students to embrace new subject offerings, equipping our students with the skills they will need to be contributors to Australia’s future economic prosperity

The Innovation and Design Hub Campaign and Appeal

It is with great excitement that we unveil the plans for the next stage in the growth and development of St Aidan's Anglican Girls' School: The Innovation + Design Hub.

This project will transform the existing Arts Precinct, addressing the needs of current pedagogy by providing flexible learning spaces that encourage collaboration, and which allow students to work and tinker openly with a vast array of art, design, technology and construction materials. The importance of creativity, robotics and design has been highlighted in the State Government's Advance Queensland initiative, and the Australian Government's National Innovation and Science Agenda. We know the jobs of the future will be in these areas, so it is critical that we equip our young women to be able to take the lead.

The Innovation + Design Hub will cater for the changing needs of education, as well as playing a role as focus on wellness. Activities undertaken within the hub will address the National Curriculum in the Arts and Technology, and will contribute to student development the following areas:

IT capability

Critical and creative thinking

Literacy

Personal and social capability

Overall wellness

Ethical understanding

Renders & plans

The St Aidan's Foundation seeks your support for this exciting project, so that together we can continue to provide the physical environment required to nurture the personal development and scholastic achievements of our girls. Please click through the visuals below to view the Architect's Renders and Plans in more detail.

Giving

The Innovation and Design Hub is endorsed and supported by School Council, with a total budgeted cost of $4.7 million. The St Aidan's Foundation seeks the support of our community in raising $800,000 towards this goal.

Whether it be $50, or $500, any size gift will be greatly received, and will go toward realising our goal to deliver a centre like no other.

I think that the introduction of these “maker spaces” create an area that encourages extensive creativity and innovation. With the access to materials to express ideas though prototypes, it lets you develop a physical model as a documentation of your idea. This then allows you to go through the process of trial and error, come to conclusions and problem solve. Instead of writing ideas down on paper, this process of creation not only allows you to understand how your idea would function, but it would encourage collaboration with others, upon the sharing of your idea with this prototype.

Tim Kemp

Subject coordinator, Design and Innovation Studies

We are born creative. We are constantly designing. We all find makeshift solutions to everyday problems, whether it’s old phonebooks under our computer screen to bring it to eye level, or using a bread clip to get a few more days wear out of a pair of “blown out” rubber thongs. The Innovation and Design Hub is a space for students to become more aware of their innate ability to innovate, to refine the various skills and thought processes that are essential for innovation, and to apply them to real world problems both large and small. Design is not a product, it is a way of thinking and a way of challenging the status quo.

In addition, the Innovation and Design is offering opportunities for naming right acknowledgment through our Gift Plan. This option may suit donors who wish to publicly acknowledge their relationship with St Aidan's, or honour someone who has made a contribution to the school, or to Creative Arts Endeavour as a whole.
If you wish to participate in the Gift Plan, please contact Gordana Pilgrim, Director of Development, on 3373  5929.
