Year 12 Art
Body of Work 1
In their first Body of Work students established a personal focus related to Childhood. This was part of a broader concept involving Identity, The Human Condition and Change. Students initially considered childhood as something we have all passed though, and as adults or adolescents only limited memories remain. Childhood can often be a mysterious place or time charged with nostalgia. The theme of Childhood evoked numerous questions e.g. what did it feel like to be a child? How did you perceive, discover and experience the world? Although childhood is conditioned by cultural and social factors it is lived individually and generally remembered subjectively. Year 12 students often explored the theme of Childhood as a mythical and utopian motif and found that it encompasses multiple and sometimes contradictory attributes like innocence and bliss but also fear and helplessness.

BODY OF WORK 2
In their second Body of Work students established a personal focus related to Place as Domestic Space. The meaning of domestic was not intrinsic to a set of physical characteristics, but more so to the psychological space that permeates homes, houses and different dwellings where people live. As part of this they were required to:
-
Imagine the secret life of domestic objects
-
Document and celebrate patterns in domestic settings, decoration and beauty
-
Analyze the influence of buildings and architecture on occupants, as well as historical context of the area.
-
Consider how domestic space might be ‘felt’
-
Express differences of house/home in differing historical and cultural contexts
-
Think about how domestic sites may signify or influence identity, how they shape occupants or how occupants personalise living spaces
-
Delve into imaginary domestic spaces, make-believe ‘dream’ homes
-
Look back on childhood in the domestic environment, nostalgia and identify sentimentality triggers.
