Languages
The study of Languages promotes international understanding and cultural awareness. Being multilingual is beneficial for business, government and travel purposes. Students have opportunities to take part in tours and exchanges, as well as experiencing cultural events in Brisbane.
In Year 7, students choose to study 2 of French, Japanese and Chinese. From Year 8, students can continue in their choice of language or languages in a sequential, developmental program that builds conversational fluency and familiarity with a range of vocabulary, contexts and media. During their study, students develop their understanding of the culture, history, geography and media of the countries where the target language predominates.
In the senior years, students studying French, Japanese or Chinese increase their confidence in exchanging meaning in language and engage in critical and creative experiential learning. All language students are encouraged to participate in in-country experiences where possible.
